[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Emart will hold an event from the 4th to the 10th, offering up to 40% discount on all Korean beef products when purchased with event cards.
The event stock prepared this time is about 70 tons (t), which is the amount usually sold over 2 to 3 weeks. This is the largest Korean beef event in the first half of the year, worth 6 to 7 billion KRW in consumer price terms.
For popular cuts such as Korean beef sirloin (Grade 1/100g), when paying with the event card, the price is discounted by 30% from the original 10,800 KRW to 7,560 KRW. When purchased with KB Kookmin Card, an additional discount applies, allowing purchase at 6,480 KRW, a 40% discount.
The reason Emart is holding such a large-scale Korean beef event is that demand for Korean beef has increased due to the government's emergency disaster relief funds, causing prices to rise.
In fact, the average market price for Grade 1 Korean beef carcass last month was 20,642 KRW, an increase of about 18% compared to the previous year. Notably, the Grade 1 Korean beef carcass price surpassed 20,000 KRW for the first time in history in May.
Pork prices are also rising sharply. Last month, the pork carcass price was 5,108 KRW, a 12% increase compared to the same month last year.
Accordingly, Lotte Mart is offering pork at 20-30% lower prices. In addition, Australian premium beef ‘Darling Down Wagyu Top Sirloin, Brisket, Bulgogi (100g/refrigerated)’ is sold at about 30% discount.
Byun Sang-gyu, Emart’s Korean beef buyer, said, “This event was planned for consumers who feel burdened by the high prices of Korean beef. Although the market price is very high, consumers can benefit greatly by purchasing Korean beef at up to 40% lower prices.”
