Yangcheon-gu, Inspection of Compliance with Quarantine Rules in Academy District On-site Inspection of Quarantine Rules in the Academy District

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) is recommending the suspension of operations for academies and private tutoring centers and will conduct thorough inspections to ensure compliance with quarantine guidelines.

According to health authorities on the 3rd, as of May 31, 28 confirmed cases involving instructors, staff, and students were reported at seven academies and tutoring centers. To minimize the spread of infections in the metropolitan area, the government decided to implement strengthened quarantine measures for two weeks from May 29 to June 14 targeting the metropolitan region.

Accordingly, Yangcheon-gu is applying the nationally strengthened quarantine measures to academies and tutoring centers within its jurisdiction, recommending suspension of operations. In cases where operation is unavoidable, inspections will be conducted to ensure strict compliance with infection prevention guidelines pursuant to Article 49, Paragraph 1, Subparagraph 2 of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act, as a preemptive measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The district office has organized inspection teams of two employees from each department to conduct simultaneous inspections of academies and tutoring centers: the first round will take place at least once between June 1 and 3, and the second round at least once between June 8 and 11.

If an academy is found violating prevention guidelines, after a first warning, failure to correct the issue will lead to consideration of administrative suspension orders in accordance with relevant laws.

Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, expressed regret over the occurrence of a large number of confirmed cases again since the transition to a daily quarantine system, stating, “It is time to remain vigilant and strengthen efforts to strictly comply with quarantine guidelines for the safety of ourselves and our community.”
