"Shared Understanding on the Need for Bilateral Cooperation to Facilitate North Korea's Return to Dialogue"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Lee Do-hoon, Director General for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met with Xing Haiming, Chinese Ambassador to Korea, to discuss the situation on the Korean Peninsula. On the 21st of last month, Lee also met with the Russian Ambassador to Korea to discuss the need to resume North Korea nuclear talks.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the 2nd, Director General Lee met with Chinese Ambassador Xing Haiming at a location in Seoul to assess the situation on the Korean Peninsula and discuss cooperation measures for the resumption of North Korea-US talks. This meeting was the first since Ambassador Xing’s appointment in January.
An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "While discussing the North Korean situation, both sides agreed on the need for close cooperation between Korea and China to ensure North Korea’s prompt return to dialogue." Both parties also evaluated communication at various levels regarding the North Korean nuclear issue and agreed to continue close cooperation going forward.
