[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) will provide quarantine masks to local kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students and staff.
The support targets approximately 21,000 students and staff attending 52 educational institutions in the area. For kindergartens and 1st-2nd grade elementary students, who are at relatively higher risk of infection, KF80 (small size) masks will be provided at 5 masks per person. For 3rd-6th grade elementary students, middle and high school students, and staff, 10 domestically produced dental masks will be provided per person.
The district plans to purchase a total of 195,000 masks, including 25,000 KF80 (small size) public masks and 170,000 dental masks, and complete distribution by June.
Recently, as educational institutions have expressed difficulties in establishing quarantine systems following the reopening of schools, the district is implementing various support projects to ensure students can receive education in a comfortable and safe environment.
Since this year, through the pilot operation of the ‘Clean School Project,’ the district has been supporting labor costs for cleaning and disinfection at 17 public elementary schools in the area, and, with the cooperation of local community centers and health centers, is conducting intensive disinfection targeting multi-use facilities around schools.
Additionally, in May, the district provided 500,000 KRW to each kindergarten and 3 million KRW each to elementary, middle, and high schools under the name of COVID-19 quarantine expenses.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “As educational institutions conduct school reopening, it is a time when more meticulous management is needed to prevent group infections among children and adolescents,” adding, “We will prioritize students’ safety and spare no support needed on-site in cooperation with the Southern Education Support Office and each educational institution.”
