Seoul Station Female Assault Case... Railroad Police "Part of Suspect's Movement Confirmed"

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] The police investigating the so-called 'Seoul Station random assault' case have partially confirmed the suspect's movements and launched a pursuit.

The Special Railroad Judicial Police Unit stated on the 2nd, "Based on witness and victim testimonies, we have identified the suspect's appearance and are confirming their movement path," adding, "We are conducting a joint investigation with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and the National Forensic Service to identify the suspect."

They continued, "The incident occurred in a blind spot without closed-circuit television (CCTV), making it difficult to apprehend the suspect," and emphasized, "We will promptly install additional CCTV in areas without coverage to eliminate blind spots."

According to the railroad police, at around 1:50 p.m. on the 26th of last month, a woman in her 30s, Ms. A, was struck on the left cheekbone area by an unidentified man on the first floor of the Airport Railroad Seoul Station. As a result, Ms. A suffered injuries including a torn area near her eye and a fractured cheekbone.

According to police investigation, the victim Ms. A testified that while riding an escalator toward the Airport Railroad entrance, a man approached, bumped her shoulder, cursed, and then punched her in the face.

The case became known after the victim's family posted about it on social networking services (SNS), sparking controversy over 'misogynistic crime.'

Additionally, as there was no CCTV installed at the incident location causing delays in tracking the suspect, criticism arose on SNS accusing the police of being lukewarm in their investigation.
