Commemorating 'Sea Day,' Marine Debris Cleanup Activities Conducted at Musulmok and Two Other Locations
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Dolsan-eup, Yeosu City (Eupjang Jo Yong-yeon) and the Korea Coast Guard Academy commemorated Sea Day by conducting marine debris cleanup activities on the 1st to prevent marine pollution and create a pleasant local marine environment.
This cleanup activity took place at three locations including Musulmok in Dolsan-eup, with about 180 participants including students from the Korea Coast Guard Academy and staff from Yeosu City Dolsan-eup and the Fisheries Production Division.
Led by the Korea Coast Guard Academy, approximately 5 tons of marine debris, mainly discarded Styrofoam and fishing gear identified as major causes of marine pollution, were collected.
A Dolsan-eup official said, “We thank the Korea Coast Guard Academy personnel who participated in the local marine debris cleanup activities,” and added, “We will continue to strive to create a beautiful Yeosu by maintaining a clean marine environment.”
Meanwhile, the Korea Coast Guard Academy has been actively fulfilling its role as a guardian of the local marine environment by promoting marine debris cleanup activities annually, following last year.
