Government Emergency Disaster Relief Fund: 99% of Eligible Households Applied and Received Payment

The government's emergency disaster relief fund credit and debit card recharge application began at 7 a.m. on the 11th through the websites of nine card companies. Similar to the public mask 5-day rotation system, the application follows a day-of-the-week schedule, but from the 16th, applications can be made at any time. The support amounts are 400,000 KRW for single-person households, 600,000 KRW for two-person households, 800,000 KRW for three-person households, and 1,000,000 KRW for households of four or more. [Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Nearly 99% of households eligible for the nationwide emergency disaster relief fund due to the COVID-19 pandemic have completed receiving the support.

According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 2nd, a total of 21.41 million households received the government emergency disaster relief fund over 29 days from the 4th of last month to the 1st of this month, with a total payment amount of 13.481 trillion won.

Among the total 21.71 million eligible households for the emergency disaster relief fund, 98.6% received the support, and 94.6% of the total budget of 14.2448 trillion won has been disbursed.

On June 1st alone, 90,000 households applied for and received 52.8 billion won in emergency disaster relief funds.

By payment type, the cumulative number of households applying for credit/debit card charging was 14.57 million, accounting for 67.1% of the total. The payment amount was 9.5776 trillion won. Next were cash payments to 2.86 million households (13.2%) totaling 1.3011 trillion won, prepaid cards to 2.46 million households (11.3%) totaling 1.6022 trillion won, and local love gift certificates to 1.52 million households (7.0%) totaling 1.002 billion won.

Applications for the emergency disaster relief fund via credit/debit card charging can be made through each card company's website and affiliated bank branches until the 5th of this month. Applications for local love gift certificates and prepaid cards through eup/myeon/dong community service centers will continue to be accepted after that date.
