Gwangju City Expands Public Interest Senior Job Program Gwangju City Hall

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 2nd that it will expand the public interest activity senior job project in the second half of the year to revitalize the senior employment market, which has been depressed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

To stabilize the senior job market, which was hit by COVID-19, Gwangju secured 1.76 billion KRW in inspection expenses and will recruit an additional 2,000 people aged 60 and over for public interest activity-type senior jobs such as environmental maintenance projects at kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools, and daily quarantine activities.

The senior job project, which was suspended due to COVID-19, resumed in early last month, and about 24,000 people are participating except for some suspended projects.

For smooth project implementation, participants will be selected through recruitment announcements by autonomous districts from the 8th to the 19th, and applications can be submitted by visiting the local community service center or senior club in person.

In particular, this project collaborated with the City Office of Education to conduct a preliminary survey on schools wishing to participate in the school environment maintenance project and the required personnel, and the project period will be flexibly operated according to the circumstances of each autonomous district.

Lee Pyeong-hyeong, Director of the Welfare and Health Bureau, said, “We will thoroughly prevent COVID-19 infection by regularly checking the health status of elderly participants in the senior job project, and through the expansion of the job project, we aim to help improve the quality of life by providing income support to socially vulnerable elderly people who have experienced economic difficulties.”
