[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu Central Library announced on the 2nd that it will hold the "5th Humanities Classics Book Report Contest" for elementary and middle school students until the end of this month.
This contest is open to anyone from 4th grade elementary to 2nd grade middle school students in Daegu city and is divided into elementary and middle school divisions.
The designated books for the elementary division of the Daegu Central Library contest are eight titles: "Simcheongjeon," "Yangbanjeon," "Jeon Woochi-jeon," "Letters from Exile," "Anne's Diary," "My Sweet Orange Tree," "The Little Prince," and "Hope for the Flowers." The designated books for the middle school division are eight titles: "Guunmong," "Baekbeom Ilji," "Yeolha Ilgi," "Onggojipjeon," "Jonathan Livingston Seagull," "Around the World in 80 Days," "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," and "Animal Farm."
Students wishing to participate should select one of the designated books to read, then write a book report of at least 5 pages on 200-character manuscript paper for the elementary division, and at least 7 pages for the middle school division, and submit it along with the application form by mail or email.
Daegu Central Library plans to select a total of 19 works, including Grand Prize (Superintendent Award), Excellence Award (Library Director Award), and Encouragement Award (Library Director Award) for each division, and include them in the "Pathway of Words" collection to be distributed to public libraries and related institutions nationwide.
Director Jeong Geun-sik encouraged many participants, saying, "Through reading humanities classics that transcend Eastern and Western eras, I hope our youth discover wisdom for life, overcome difficulties and hardships well, and furthermore have a meaningful time reflecting on themselves."
