[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 2nd that it will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 2 p.m. on the 3rd at the site of the new Government Sejong Office Building located at 572 Eojin-dong, Sejong City.
The new Government Sejong Office Building is part of the "Central Administrative Agencies Relocation to Sejong City Project" and will be constructed on a 42,760㎡ site with three basement floors and 15 above-ground floors, totaling a gross floor area of 134,488㎡, to address the shortage of office space due to the additional relocation of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and others.
A total project cost of 387.5 billion KRW will be invested by August 2022, and the tenant agencies will be finalized comprehensively considering various conditions such as inter-agency work connectivity, symbolism, and accessibility in line with the building's completion.
The new office building is planned to independently include an auditorium, meeting rooms, a smart work center, and a government joint civil service office so that visitors can conveniently handle meetings and civil affairs without separate entry procedures. A minimal security fence will be installed only in work areas to allow anyone free access to the central pedestrian plaza (pathway) and the civil affairs building within the office site.
On the 11th floor of the office building, a space overlooking the Geumgang River and Lake Park will be provided for visitors to use without separate entry procedures.
Minister Jin Young of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety stated, "The new office building is a meaningful project completing the central administrative agencies relocation project that began in 2005 for national balanced development," adding, "It will establish itself as a new landmark of the Administrative City, a symbol of decentralized autonomy, not just a simple government office building."
