Public Rental Supply of Country Houses for Returning Farmers and Rural Migrants

Public Rental Supply of Country Houses for Returning Farmers and Rural Migrants Bosung Ungok Return-to-Farming and Return-to-Village Public Housing Complex Bird's-Eye View (Provided by LH)

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 2nd that it has completed the construction permits for the 'Return-to-Farming and Rural Public Housing Project' in Ungok-ri, Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, and will begin full-scale implementation.

This project was prepared to respond to the decline of rural areas caused by population decrease and aging, while also seeking to revitalize the rural economy and promote balanced development through regional population inflow in line with changing perceptions such as increased social interest in return-to-farming and rural migration.

Last year, LH signed an agreement with Boseong-gun to implement the public housing project and established a business plan focused on supporting housing and income generation. Construction is scheduled to begin in September, with occupancy targeted for next year.

The 'Boseong Ungok Return-to-Farming and Rural Public Housing Project' plans to build 18 single-family public rental houses. Various specialized designs such as individual front yards, parking lots, vegetable gardens, terraces, and wooden verandas will be applied to each household to allow residents to enjoy rural country life.

A community space (village hall) that can be used as a place for communication and exchange among residents will be created to support the revitalization of the village community. Eco-friendly solar power generation facilities will also be installed on the hall's roof to reduce common maintenance costs. Additionally, in collaboration with Boseong-gun, nearby local government land will be developed into farmland and leased to residents to encourage stable settlement through agricultural income generation.

LH also plans to complete early approval of construction permits for the 'Sangju Yangjeong Return-to-Farming and Rural Public Housing Project' scheduled in Sangju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do.

Byun Chang-hoom, President of LH, said, "Rural areas are not problem zones but an outlet and solution that our society must utilize for sustainability," adding, "We plan to develop a universal business model combining housing, jobs, and social overhead capital (SOC) so that return-to-farming migrants, retirees, and young people can find new opportunities in rural areas and expand it nationwide."
