"African Countries Facing Discrimination Also Support China... US Must Stop Ethnic Minority Racial Discrimination"
[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] China, which is sharply confronting the United States over the Hong Kong National Security Law (Hong Kong Security Law), has expressed support for the protests against the deaths of Black people spreading across the United States.
Zhao Lijian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated this position at a regular briefing on the 1st. Spokesperson Zhao said, "Black lives are lives too," and asserted, "Their human rights must also be guaranteed."
He continued, "These protests reflect that ethnic minorities in the United States have experienced racial discrimination, which is a common sentiment in American society," emphasizing, "The current situation once again shows that racial discrimination exists in the United States, and it also highlights the seriousness of violent law enforcement by American police and the urgency of resolving this issue."
Linking this to discrimination against ethnic minorities, he appealed for support from African countries for China. He said, "We hope the U.S. government takes thorough measures to resolve this issue and fulfills its obligations under international treaties to abolish racial discrimination," adding, "Through this, the rights of ethnic minorities must be guaranteed."
He added, "Since African countries also have a painful history related to racial discrimination, the African Union and African national leaders have expressed opposition to the situation occurring in the United States," and "China supports the appeals of African countries and opposes all acts of racial discrimination."
