According to the Pohang Maritime Police Station, on the night of May 30, a minke whale about 7 meters long, caught in a trap net 87 km offshore from Yangpo-ri, Janggi-myeon, Nam-gu, Pohang, was discovered by the captain of a fishing vessel hauling in the net.
After receiving the report, the coast guard confirmed that there were no harpoon marks or other traces on the whale and issued a whale distribution certificate. The whale, handed over to the Yangpo Fisheries Cooperative auction site in Gyeongju the next day, May 31, was sold for 108 million won.
