[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City is establishing and pilot-operating a signal system that allows emergency vehicles to pass through intersections without stopping by giving them priority.

According to the city on the 1st, the system detects the movement location of emergency vehicles such as fire trucks in advance and controls the signals to allow them to pass through intersections without stopping.

This is expected to increase the speed of emergency response vehicles and shorten the arrival time at accident sites, thereby securing the golden time. It aims to prevent emergency vehicles from arriving late at accident scenes due to congested traffic conditions.

The city plans to pilot-operate the emergency vehicle priority signal system from the 8th to the 19th of this month and then officially introduce and operate it starting next month.

During the pilot operation period, the sections where the signal system will be applied are limited to the route from Daedeok Fire Station to Ojeong Agricultural and Marine Products Market (4.5 km) and from Seobu Fire Station to Seodaejeon Station Intersection (4 km), but the coverage is expected to expand from next month.

Kang Gyu-chang, Director of the Transportation and Construction Bureau of the city, said, “We are introducing and operating this emergency vehicle priority signal system to support the rapid and safe movement of emergency vehicles and to secure the golden time in urgent situations to protect the lives and property of citizens. We ask for citizens’ special attention during the pilot operation period to ensure the stable establishment of the system.”
