[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City is set to actively develop the Hwayang Bonsai Village, raising expectations as a new tourism resource.

According to Yeosu City, on the 1st, it announced that it is actively cooperating in the creation of Hwayang Bonsai Village, a new type of rural village, to promote the influx of urban residents into farming and fishing communities and improve living conditions in rural areas.

Hwayang Bonsai Village will be developed on approximately 50,000㎡ of land, including three plots such as San 209, Najin-ri, Hwayang-myeon. A cooperative consisting of 57 members plans to invest 20.8 billion KRW of private capital to create the village and provide tourists with opportunities to appreciate bonsai.

The Hwayang Bonsai Village Maintenance Cooperative (Chairman Kim Yong-mook) received approval for the designation of the village maintenance area from Jeonnam Province in May and is reportedly preparing to submit the project implementation plan to the city before commencing construction.

A Yeosu City official stated, “Once the bonsai village is established, it will provide a pleasant residential space where anyone would want to live, lead the development of new tourism resources and population inflow, and greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy,” adding, “We will do our best to provide administrative support so that it can become the foundation of a beautiful healing rural village where people can relax their body and mind and enjoy recreational experiences.”
