Ssangyong Motor sells 8,285 units in May... 21.2% increase from previous month but 32.8% decrease from same period last year

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Ssangyong Motor announced on the 1st that it sold a total of 8,286 units in May, including 7,575 units domestically and 711 units for export. Although contracts increased by more than 50% compared to the previous month due to strengthened sales promotions, sales only increased by 21.6% month-on-month due to production disruptions caused by the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Overall sales also decreased by 32.8% compared to the same period last year (12,338 units).

Ssangyong Motor disclosed these results through the Financial Supervisory Service's electronic disclosure system on the same day. In domestic sales, all models showed steady sales growth, with Tivoli and Korando increasing by 27.1% and 27.6% respectively compared to the previous month, resulting in an overall 25.9% increase month-on-month. However, this represents a 25% decrease compared to the same period last year (10,106 units).

In exports, the European market, the main market, recorded a 10.7% decrease month-on-month due to prolonged lockdown measures caused by the spread of COVID-19. Compared to the same period last year (2,232 units), exports decreased by 68.1%.

Ssangyong Motor is proactively responding to the resumption of economic activities in Europe by officially launching the Tivoli gasoline 1.2 model (G1.2T) in the European market last month through YouTube.

Ssangyong Motor stated, "We are currently focusing all our capabilities on parts supply and supply chain management to prevent production disruptions caused by COVID-19," and added, "We plan to increase global sales by expanding our lineup, including the partial facelift model of the G4 Rexton in the second half of this year and re-launching the long-body version of the Tivoli, the Tivoli Air."
