[Asia Economy (Naepo) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province's project to ease entry barriers to fishing villages is helping to support the settlement of people returning to fishing and rural areas. This project was first introduced nationwide in Chungnam in 2016.
The province announced on the 1st that it awarded three outstanding fishing villages in the Taean and Seosan areas that contributed to the development of fishing communities through the entry barrier easing project.
This year's outstanding fishing villages include ▲Grand Prize: Taean Mansudong Fishing Village ▲Excellence Award: Seosan Daero Fishing Village ▲Encouragement Award: Seosan Wangsang Fishing Village. Each fishing village was recognized for lowering entry barriers by increasing a total of 23 new fishing village members last year.
In particular, Taean Mansudong Fishing Village was highly evaluated for implementing the entry barrier easing project and its own mutual village pension system.
The province plans to support the three selected outstanding fishing villages with project funds ranging from 60 million to 180 million KRW.
Meanwhile, the entry barrier easing project for fishing villages was initiated with the aim of revitalizing fishing communities and enhancing the economic, social, and cultural status of fishing villages.
As of last year, 157 out of 169 fishing villages in Chungnam participated in this project. Over the past four years, these villages have increased their new members by 416 and have seen effects such as the activation of experiential tourism and income growth.
