Planting Lettuce, Receiving Physical Therapy... Ulsan-Style Senior Apartment to Be Established Perspective view of Ulsan-type senior welfare housing.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] An apartment where you can wash your face in the morning at a washbasin with the perfect height, grow cabbage in the garden in front of your house, and receive physical therapy if your back hurts. Such apartments, with low rent and ideal for living in old age, are scheduled to be supplied in Ulsan.

On the 1st, Ulsan City announced that it was finally selected by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for the ‘Senior Welfare Housing Public Contest Project,’ which provides both housing and welfare services for the elderly.

The so-called ‘Ulsan-type Senior Welfare Housing’ will make its debut. The areas selected in this contest include six regions totaling about 640 households, including Ulsan, Paju Unjeong in Gyeonggi Province, and Ara in Jeju, with Ulsan having the largest number at 150 households.

This housing construction project, costing a total of 31 billion KRW (15.52 billion KRW from the national government and 15.48 billion KRW from the city), will be built on a 6,000㎡ area within the ‘Down2 Public Housing District’ in Jung-gu, consisting of 150 apartment units and 2,000㎡ of welfare facilities, and is scheduled for completion in 2024.

In this evaluation, the Ulsan-type Senior Welfare Housing was planned with indoor spaces without level differences for elderly people who are vulnerable in housing, and included specialized services such as height-adjustable washbasins and toilets for the elderly and infirm. The pleasant natural environment, the conditions harmonized with it, and the welfare center planned within the complex received high scores.

A city official said, “The welfare center, which will be operated by a specialized institution, is expected to have high resident satisfaction due to its high-quality programs,” and added, “Specialized programs such as garden operation will provide elderly residents with leisure activities and help them enjoy a happy old age.”
