Making Chantak and Embroidery Lamps with Traditional Craft Techniques Chantak


A market for applying traditional crafts to everyday life will be established. It is the ‘2020 Intangible Heritage Citizen Workshop’ operated by the National Intangible Heritage Center of the Cultural Heritage Administration until November. This is a social education program where participants create crafts themselves using traditional craft techniques and materials. Bok Jong-seon, a holder of the National Intangible Cultural Property No. 55, Somokjang (woodcraft), and Yoon Jeong-sook, a holder of the National Intangible Cultural Property No. 80, Jasujang (embroidery), participate as instructors.


Making Chantak and Embroidery Lamps with Traditional Craft Techniques Embroidery Lighting


Participants will make items such as ‘Chantak’ using weaving techniques and ‘Chochungdo frames and lighting’ using traditional embroidery techniques. All are practical crafts used for multiple purposes in daily life. An official from the Intangible Heritage Center stated, “We plan to proceed by establishing compliance measures for the living quarantine system to prevent COVID-19.” The education program is open to everyone.
