[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] KOICA announced on the 1st that it was selected as an excellent institution in the 'Public Data Provision Operation Status Evaluation' conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in 2019.

In this evaluation conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety targeting 520 institutions including central administrative agencies, local governments, and public institutions, KOICA was among the 52 public institutions that received excellence.

The 'Public Data Provision Operation Status Evaluation' is a system that evaluates four areas of public data of public institutions?△management system △opening △utilization △quality?according to Article 9 of the 'Act on the Provision and Use Promotion of Public Data,' and KOICA was included in the evaluation target for the first time in 2019.

To enhance data utilization capabilities, KOICA established the 'Basic Plan for the Provision and Use Promotion of Public Data' in 2019, setting tasks for building a public data opening system, expanding opening, and strengthening utilization, and is implementing them step-by-step with the goal of achieving them by 2022.

Specifically, KOICA has actively engaged in data operation activities based on public communication such as △appointing a data curator and establishing a knowledge data team △discovering public data through national data demand surveys △conducting visiting KOICA data utilization university special lectures.

KOICA scored an average of 85.71 points, about 25 points higher than the average of 60.71 points of 234 public institutions in the same evaluation group, recording above-average scores in all areas.

Jae-shin Park, Director of KOICA Business Strategy and Asia Headquarters, said, “KOICA is undergoing an innovative transformation process to create social value through digital management culture formation such as establishing a dedicated data department and opening public data,” and added, “We will continue to strive to discover and open various development cooperation-related data needed by the public.”

Meanwhile, KOICA is opening a total of 22 types of data including ODA statistics, bid announcements, and development cooperation trends in developing countries through the Public Data Portal (data.go.kr), and recently built an information hub (covid19.koica.go.kr) by collecting COVID-19 related data to provide easy access to COVID-19 trends in developing countries.
