KEPCO's 'HubPop' Platform Validates Cloud Computing Quality and Performance

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) announced on the 1st that its private cloud service platform, 'HUB-PoP,' has passed the quality and performance verification for cloud computing services conducted by the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA).

The cloud computing service quality and performance verification passed by KEPCO is a system overseen by NIPA, with the Korea Cloud Industry Association and the Korea Information and Communication Technology Association strictly reviewing and evaluating quality and performance according to rigorous standards and issuing a certificate.

KEPCO is the first public institution to obtain this certificate.

The HUB-PoP platform is a cloud-based digital platform that KEPCO is building to be used for the development and operation of power applications and big data analysis.

KEPCO began developing the platform in 2017. The goal is to establish all functions necessary for digital transformation promotion by the end of this year.

Last year, KEPCO completed the cloud functions of HUB-PoP and is providing services to its internal employees. It is being utilized for research and development (R&D) and business system development.

The platform's use is expanding across all internal operations, including various analysis projects using power big data, development of diverse solutions applying artificial intelligence (AI) technology, and business intelligence enhancement.

A KEPCO official stated, "We are currently developing Intelligent Digital Power Plant (IDPP) technology in cooperation with power group companies based on the HUB-PoP platform," and added, "In the future, we plan to build power big data centered on the HUB-PoP platform and spread AI technology throughout the power industry."

He continued, "Based on this, we will also contribute to creating a digital power industry ecosystem, including discovering startup companies and supporting the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises."
