Kim Myung-gon Appointed as New Chairman of Mapo Cultural Foundation

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] Actor Kim Myung-gon (69) has been appointed as the new chairman of the Mapo Cultural Foundation. Chairman Kim Myung-gon took office on the 1st, with a term of three years from the date of appointment.


Chairman Kim Myung-gon debuted in 1983 with the film 'Declaration of Idiot' and is a representative actor of South Korea who won the Best Actor award at the Blue Dragon Film Awards for director Im Kwon-taek's film 'Seopyeonje.' He has continued to be active recently as a theater actor and director. He is also an arts management expert who has served as the director of the National Theater of Korea, the 8th Minister of Culture and Tourism, and is currently the chairman of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts.


Chairman Kim said, "The Mapo Cultural Foundation is a regional cultural foundation leading Seoul's basic cultural foundations, a unique complex cultural center equipped with diverse performances and academies encompassing both pure arts and popular culture, as well as sports facilities." He expressed his ambition, saying, "I will do my best so that my experience as an actor combining arts and arts administration can contribute to the development of Mapo's local culture and the foundation."


The Mapo Cultural Foundation is an independent corporation promoting various projects to enhance the cultural welfare of local residents through performances, cultural lectures, and sports. It operates the complex facility 'Mapo Art Center' located in Daehyeong-dong, Mapo-gu, and pursues various projects for the development of the local community and the promotion of cultural welfare for district residents through culture and arts.
