[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] More than 98% of households eligible for the nationwide emergency disaster relief fund due to the COVID-19 pandemic have completed receiving the support funds.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 1st, a total of 21.32 million households received the government emergency disaster relief fund over 28 days from the 4th to the 31st of last month, amounting to 13.4282 trillion won.
Out of the total 21.71 million households eligible for the emergency disaster relief fund, 98.2% received the support, and 94.3% of the total budget of 14.2448 trillion won has been disbursed.
On May 31st, the day before, 10,000 households applied for and received 7.1 billion won in emergency disaster relief funds.
By payment method (cumulative), 14.45 million households (67.0% of the total) applied for credit/debit card charging. The amount paid was 9.5647 trillion won.
Next were cash applications with 2.86 million households (13.2%) amounting to 1.3011 trillion won, prepaid cards with 2.41 million households (11.1%) amounting to 1.5737 trillion won, and local love gift certificates with 1.5 million households (6.9%) amounting to 988.7 billion won, in that order.
Applications for the emergency disaster relief fund via credit/debit card charging will be accepted through each card company's website and affiliated bank branches until the 5th of this month. Applications for local love gift certificates and prepaid cards through town, township, and neighborhood community centers will continue to be accepted afterward.
The weekday system for online and offline credit/debit card applications has been lifted, allowing applications regardless of birth year. Whether the weekday system continues for local love gift certificates and prepaid card applications varies by local government circumstances, so applicants should check accordingly.
