Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Announces '2020 Korea Public Architecture Awards' Competition

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 1st that it will hold the '2020 Korea Public Architecture Awards' contest to discover project owners who have made efforts to create or improve excellent public buildings.

Since its inception in 2007, the Public Architecture Awards, now in its 14th year, have been recognized not only for discovering the creative efforts and achievements of project owners but also for contributing to establishing public architecture as an important element that interacts with local residents and enhances their quality of life.

Notable past grand prize winners include Jochiwon Cultural Garden in 2019, Bucheon Art Bunker B39 in 2018, Chilbo Youth Culture House in 2017, and Gusan-dong Library Village in 2016.

Applications for the contest are open from the 2nd until the 10th of next month. The contest is divided into three categories: public architecture, innovative administration, and public participation. A total of eight awards will be given, including one Prime Minister's Citation and three Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Citations.

The award in the public architecture category is given to project organizations or individuals who have provided high-quality public services to local residents through dedicated efforts and leading roles in promoting high-quality public buildings and spatial environments.

The award in the innovative administration category targets cases of administrative innovation aimed at improving the quality of public buildings or ideas currently being pursued, and is awarded to the relevant institution or department.

The public participation category invites anyone from the public to submit stories on the theme of 'Good Public Architecture as I Think' or 'Special Public Architecture I Have Experienced.'
