Elimination of Heavy Metals from Fine Dust in the Body, Rich in Functional Ingredients
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 1st that it has selected "Dasima" (kelp) as the marine healing food for June.
Wando's annual Dasima production amounts to 179,482 tons, accounting for 80% of the national production, mainly produced in Geumil-eup, Gogeum-myeon, and Yaksan-myeon.
Dasima is harvested from mid-May to early July, and Wando is currently in the busy season of full-scale Dasima harvesting.
Known as the "Elixir of the Sea," Dasima contains large amounts of calcium, iron, magnesium, vitamin C, and is rich in alginic acid, a water-soluble fiber.
Alginic acid, a sticky mucilaginous component, is a polysaccharide that absorbs fine dust and heavy metals inside the body and helps expel them.
Additionally, Dasima is rich in dietary fiber, which aids intestinal health. According to an analysis by the National Cancer Center on the impact of seaweed consumption on cancer incidence, consuming Dasima and Miyeok (sea mustard) reduced the risk of colon cancer by 42% and 18%, respectively.
Dasima has long been regarded as a food that helps purify the blood. The Donguibogam records that it "controls mountain qi, calms swellings, manages lumps, and softens hard masses."
Dasima is mainly used for wrapping food or making broth, but it is also good to eat as Dasima pickles, Dasima and sea squirt porridge, Dasima nutritious rice with abalone and shiitake mushrooms, or noodles with Dasima powder.
To create a refreshing broth flavor, Dasima is simmered with radish and anchovies. Consuming Dasima and radish together combines the potassium in Dasima and vitamin C in radish, which strengthens blood vessels and helps prevent hypertension.
For growing children, we recommend Dasima sweet potato croquettes made by soaking mashed sweet potatoes in water, finely chopping Dasima, and mixing it with onion, carrot, and cheese, then shaping into rounds and frying until golden brown.
Dasima produced in the clean sea of Wando can be purchased at Wando-gun’s representative shopping mall, "Wando-gun iShop."
