[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Samsung Electronics announced on the 1st that it will launch two types of the ‘Odyssey G7’ curved gaming monitors (32-inch and 27-inch) with an industry-first 1000R curvature in the domestic market.
The R value refers to the radius of the circle forming the curved line (curvature), and the lower the number, the greater the degree of curvature. 1000R means the curvature of a circle with a radius of 1000 mm.
The 1000R applied to the Odyssey G7 provides a uniform viewing distance from the center to the edges of the screen, known as the most ideal curvature for the human eye. Samsung Electronics explained that this expands the gamer’s field of view, delivering a powerful sense of immersion.
The Odyssey G7 also received the ‘Eye Comfort’ certification from TUV Rheinland, a German testing and certification organization, guaranteeing visual comfort.
Additionally, this product features the highest specifications among gaming monitors, including ▲QLED curved panel ▲240 Hz high refresh rate ▲1 ms response time based on G2G ▲NVIDIA G-Sync Compatibility. G2G (Grey to Grey) is one of the standards for measuring response time, referring to the time taken to transition from bright gray to dark gray.
Other features include ▲maximum brightness of 600 nits ▲WQHD (2560x1440) resolution ▲HDR 600 ▲AMD FreeSync Premium Pro compatibility.
In particular, NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro reduce screen tearing caused by communication issues between the PC and monitor during high-spec gaming.
Samsung Electronics stated that the Odyssey G7 implements a futuristic design with a dynamic front bezel and rear core lighting capable of expressing 52 color spectrums.
Ha Hye-seung, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business, said, “Through the Odyssey G7, equipped with the industry’s first 1000R curvature and top-tier technology, Samsung Electronics will provide gamers with the best gaming experience,” and added, “We will further solidify our position as the global No. 1 in gaming monitors.”
The Odyssey G7 is priced at 900,000 KRW for the 32-inch model and 800,000 KRW for the 27-inch model. Samsung Electronics is running a promotion offering a JBL Gaming Headset Quantum 300 as a gift to customers who purchase by August 31.
