"3D Super Junior" SK Telecom Partners with SM for 3D Mixed Reality Performance

"3D Super Junior" SK Telecom Partners with SM for 3D Mixed Reality Performance

[Asia Economy Reporter Joeslgina] In an online concert stage, Choi Siwon, a member of Super Junior, appeared as a gigantic 3D mixed reality image like the 'Genie of the Lamp,' drawing attention. Filling the 12-meter-high venue, Choi Siwon conversed with the members standing on stage for about 30 seconds.

SK Telecom announced on the 1st that it showcased this kind of 3D mixed reality performance at the Super Junior online concert conducted in collaboration with SM Entertainment. This is the first case of applying content produced at the mixed reality production studio 'Jump Studio,' which has been operating since the end of April, to an online live performance.

This 3D mixed reality performance was realized as both companies shared the intention to present new content based on the latest ICT technology to global audiences online. The previous day's 130-minute Super Junior online paid concert 'Beyond Live' attracted about 123,000 viewers worldwide, gaining popularity.

SK Telecom filmed Choi Siwon for one hour with 106 cameras at Jump Studio and completed the 3D mixed reality content in just one day. Utilizing Jump Studio's 3D modeling and animation technology, the 12-meter high-resolution mixed reality image was produced to blend naturally with the actual venue, which is a distinctive feature.

An SK Telecom official said, "The satisfaction of performance production experts was also high," adding, "The 3D mixed reality content filmed once can be freely zoomed in, zoomed out, and duplicated, expanding the creator's expressive range. It is also economical as it can be easily filmed in an indoor studio without mobilizing large-scale filming equipment."

SK Telecom plans to continue promoting business that provides mixed reality content to B2B customers in various fields such as entertainment, advertising, and gaming. They also plan to significantly expand immersive media experiences for 5G users.

Lee Sungsoo, CEO of SM Entertainment, said, "We will continue to apply new Culture Technology (CT) to the performance field and present more evolved online concerts." Jeon Jinsoo, head of SK Telecom's 5GX Service Division, emphasized, "In the untact era, the demand for mixed reality technology is expected to increase rapidly," adding, "Mixed reality content will change the paradigm of entertainment fields such as performances, movies, and dramas."
