[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Honam University (President Park Sangcheol) announced on the 31st that it has closed applications for participation in the ‘2020 HNU-Champion’ eSports tournament (2020 Myeolmangjeon) and finalized the tournament bracket through a draw.
Honam University will hold the ‘2020 HNU-Champion’ tournament, competing in eSports with the online top popular game League of Legends (LoL), from June 3 to 8 as a non-face-to-face and no-audience event to provide vitality to students exhausted by remote classes and life quarantine due to COVID-19.
As of the application deadline on the 29th, a total of 20 teams applied, including teams from each department, military officer training corps, and international student teams from China and Vietnam. The draw for the tournament bracket was completed at 6 p.m. that day at the Teaching and Learning Development Center via YouTube streaming.
The preliminary rounds, held from the 3rd to the 5th of next month, will continue, and the matches of the four teams advancing to the finals will be held on the 8th at the specially arranged auditorium on the first floor of IT Square. The live match broadcast will be streamed on YouTube Honam University TV.
This tournament, organized by the newly established Department of eSports Industry (Department Head Jeong Yeoncheol) welcoming its first freshmen this year and the Student Council (President Kang Minwoo), forms teams of five students per department, requiring at least two freshmen to participate. Additionally, international student teams from China, Vietnam, and others will compete in an event match as a national competition.
The winning team will receive the President’s Award along with a prize of 1,000,000 KRW, the runner-up team 500,000 KRW, two teams placing third will each receive 200,000 KRW, and one team will be awarded 100,000 KRW for team play.
The President’s Award and prize money will also be given to the winning teams of the international students’ event matches.
