[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] Amid a surge in new confirmed cases of COVID-19 following the cluster infection at the Coupang Bucheon logistics center, the government will conduct intensive quarantine inspections at approximately 4,300 logistics facilities nationwide until the 11th of next month.

The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters (CDSCH) announced the results and plans for quarantine inspections of logistics facilities during a regular briefing held at the government Seoul office on the 31st.

Park Neung-hoo, the first deputy head of the CDSCH, stated, "The government is urgently inspecting the quarantine status of logistics facilities and strengthening related measures. Ministries and local governments are jointly conducting emergency inspections of 32 distribution and logistics centers until June 1, and as of yesterday (the 30th), inspections at 23 locations have been completed."

According to the CDSCH, on-site inspections revealed areas needing improvement, such as the absence of tailored quarantine guidelines at logistics centers and insufficient designation and operation of dedicated quarantine managers.

Deputy Head Park added, "We will expand quarantine inspections to about 4,300 facilities under the jurisdiction of six ministries, including parcel delivery terminals, and plan to strengthen quarantine management at each workplace over the next two weeks."

He also explained, "We will provide checklists to 1,750 workplaces with high density, such as call centers and IT industries, to enable them to conduct self-inspections."
