Busan City announced on the 31st that it is recruiting candidates for the 36th Proud Citizen Award, the most honorable citizen award given to citizens who have made Busan stand out and served neighbors in need, until July 31.
This award was first established in 1985 and annually selects and awards up to seven winners in total, including the grand prize and main and encouragement awards in the categories of patriotism, service, and sacrifice. Last year, Kang Dong-seok, CEO of Dongjin Gikong, who has consistently supported children from single-parent and broken families for 30 years, received the grand prize. To date, a total of 229 'Proud Citizens' have been honored.
The Proud Citizen Award judging committee, composed of experts in each category, will conduct a thorough and fair evaluation of the nominated candidates by September. The final winners will be awarded at the Busan Citizens' Day event scheduled for October.
Eligibility for candidates includes citizens with clear achievements according to each category's selection criteria, citizens who have resided in Busan for more than three years, citizens who have not previously received the Proud Citizen Award, citizens who have not received a mayoral citation or higher award within the past year, and citizens who do not fall under other disqualifying criteria.
Busan district mayors and county governors, heads of various institutions, leaders of civic, social, and professional organizations, and business owners, as well as general citizens, can recommend candidates with the endorsement of 20 or more people.
Recommendation forms can be submitted by mail or in person to the Busan City Autonomy and Decentralization Division by July 31, and required documents can be checked on the Busan City website or by visiting the general affairs departments of districts and counties.
