[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] All 98 people, including the parents, teachers, students, family members, and school contacts of the Busan Naeseong High School 3rd-year student who is the 144th confirmed case of COVID-19 in Busan, tested negative in diagnostic tests.

According to the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education on the 31st, the test subjects included 20 classmates and 53 students who came into contact during elective subject mobile classes, totaling 73 people. There were 24 homeroom and subject teachers, and one graduation album photographer was also included. They underwent diagnostic tests at a public health center in Busan on the 30th, and all tested negative on the same day. Three family members, including the parents and younger sister, also tested negative.

However, the education office considered it too early to be relieved and decided to handle the situation cautiously by switching to remote classes and postponing exams. The 3rd-year students changed their in-person classes to remote learning for two weeks from June 1 to 12, and the 1st and 2nd-year students, who were scheduled to attend school on June 3, also switched to remote classes for the time being. The midterm exams, originally scheduled for June 12, were postponed by two weeks to June 26.

Currently, a total of 33 close contacts among students and staff are under self-quarantine. These include the confirmed student’s classmates (20), mobile class students (10), and teachers (2). The remaining 65 people who tested negative were classified as active monitoring subjects.

The education office completed disinfection of the entire school on the 30th with the cooperation of the Geumjeong District Public Health Center. A second round of disinfection was conducted on the 31st.

An official from the education office said, “We sent an urgent alert message via SNS to all school administrators and parents in the Busan area about the confirmed case at Naeseong High School and urged compliance with quarantine rules. We also issued instructions prohibiting students from entering multi-use facilities such as PC rooms and coin karaoke rooms.”
