[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The certificate awarding ceremony for newly selected representative startup companies in Busan this year will be held at 3 p.m. on June 1 at the Paradise Hotel in Haeundae-gu, Busan.
Busan City announced on the 31st that through an integrated recruitment process in April, 61 companies in the Busan area were newly selected this year.
The support for representative startup companies in Busan is a project led by three startup support organizations including the city, Busan Creative Economy Innovation Center, Busan Economic Promotion Agency, and Busan Technopark, which discover companies with innovative technologies and high growth potential and nurture them into global companies.
Currently, depending on the operating organization, the program is divided into the ‘Bright Club’ (Busan Creative Economy Innovation Center), ‘Million Club’ (Busan Economic Promotion Agency), and ‘Platinum Club’ (Busan Technopark). This year, through the integrated recruitment in April, 30 companies were newly selected for the ‘Bright Club,’ 22 for the ‘Million Club,’ and 9 for the ‘Platinum Club.’
The event will bring together the 61 newly selected companies from each club this year, private investors, accelerators, and key startup support organization officials in one place. Along with the certificate awarding, various programs themed around startups are prepared.
The certificate awarding will be conducted by Acting Mayor Byun Sung-wan for the 61 newly selected companies, followed by presentations on company growth cases and a talk concert involving investors, financial institutions, and startup companies.
Panelists for the talk concert include Kwon Young-chul, CEO of Genfix; Ha Tae-hoon, CEO of WeVentures; Seo Young-woo, CEO of Zephyrus Lab; and Kim Jae-woong, Head of the Innovation Company Support Department at Korea Securities Depository. They will share diverse thoughts and opinions on Busan’s startup ecosystem.
Regarding the support details for the 61 companies, the Bright Club plans to provide commercialization funds of up to 8 million KRW per company tailored to company needs, along with office hour programs with major domestic investors and support for global expansion.
The Million Club plans to support certification funds necessary for company management at around 1.5 million KRW per company, while the Platinum Club plans to provide commercialization funds of about 10 million KRW per company and linked support such as investment attraction education and investor relations (IR) presentations.
