City Council Special Session Passes Ordinance... Establishing Basis for Education Disaster Relief Fund

According to the Busan City Council on the 31st, a bill to provide 100,000 KRW in educational disaster relief funds to elementary, middle, and high school students in Busan to overcome the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has passed the city council.
The city council held a one-point extraordinary session on the 29th to handle the "Educational Disaster Relief Fund Support Ordinance" and the "Partial Amendment Ordinance on School Tuition, Admission Fees, and School Operation Support Expenses." This extraordinary session was convened to establish the legal basis for providing educational disaster relief funds in response to the disaster situation caused by COVID-19.
Accordingly, the city education office will submit a supplementary budget proposal to the 287th regular session in June, and if approved, 100,000 KRW per student will be provided to all elementary, middle, and high school students in Busan starting early July.
The budget for the support funds amounts to 30.79 billion KRW and will be covered by unspent meal fees from school closures in March and April, as well as the education office's own budget.
