[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Samsung conducted its new employee recruitment written test, the Samsung Aptitude Test (GSAT), online for the first time ever on the 30th and 31st, and is considering holding the recruitment written tests online from the second half of this year onward.
Samsung stated on the 31st, "We will thoroughly evaluate and analyze this first online test process, and decide whether to institutionalize the online written test for recruitment after the second half of the year by supplementing any potential issues."
It is known that Samsung had long been concerned about the enormous social costs caused by large-scale on-site exams while conducting the GSAT, commonly called the 'Samsung Exam.' This was because gathering tens of thousands of test-takers at test centers nationwide imposed significant costs and time burdens on both the company and the examinees.
Until 2014, when major group companies simultaneously recruited talent, the number of test-takers reached 100,000 per half-year and 200,000 annually.
It is also reported that Samsung's management's determination for recruitment innovation suitable for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, as well as COVID-19, played a role in this online recruitment initiative.
