[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Hee-eun Park] The number of new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) decreased to the high 30s for the first time in four days, totaling 39 cases. However, sporadic infection cases continue to occur nationwide, including at the Coupang logistics center.
As of midnight on the 30th, the number of new confirmed cases was recorded at 39. This is the first time in four days since the 26th that the number of new confirmed cases has fallen below 40.
Infections originating from the Coupang logistics center in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, have rapidly spread mainly in the metropolitan area, causing the number of confirmed cases to increase as well.
Recently, the quarantine authorities conducted rapid comprehensive investigations on confirmed cases and related personnel at infected facilities. As a result, the rate of increase is estimated to have somewhat slowed down.
However, the possibility of the number of confirmed cases rising again due to cluster infections cannot be ruled out at any time.
The cluster infection that began at the Coupang logistics center on the 23rd has spread to major logistics centers and call centers in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon. The cumulative number of related confirmed cases reached 102 as of noon the previous day since the first patient was identified.
In particular, in Busan, concerns about cluster infections are growing as one high school senior student who attended school was confirmed positive.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on this day, the number of new COVID-19 confirmed cases increased by 39, bringing the total to 11,441. Among these, 27 were local infections and 12 were imported cases. Five cases were confirmed during quarantine procedures.
About 70% of the new confirmed cases, 27 in total, occurred in the metropolitan area, with △Gyeonggi 13 △Seoul 9 △Incheon 5 cases respectively.
Additionally, △Daegu 2 △Gwangju 2 △Busan 1 △Jeonnam 1 △Gangwon 1 cases were confirmed.
The number of new confirmed cases was in the 20s for three days from the 22nd to the 24th, then dropped to the 10s for two days on the 25th and 26th.
However, starting from the infection at the Bucheon Coupang logistics center on the 27th, additional confirmed cases increased to 40, then rose to 79 on the 28th and 58 on the 29th.
As of midnight on this day, 10,398 confirmed patients have recovered and been released from isolation, 774 patients are under treatment, and the total number of deaths is 269.
