Secured 600 Million Won Budget for Smart Electric Mobility Charging Infrastructure Project Utilizing Streetlights
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) has been finally selected in the ‘Smart Solution Challenge Project’ contest hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, securing a total of 600 million KRW.
The Smart Challenge is a project where companies, citizens, and local governments join forces to solve urban problems such as transportation, environment, and safety.
Depending on the project scale, it is divided into City, Town, and Solution Challenges. Yangcheon-gu was selected for the small-scale ‘Solution Challenge Contest Project’ and plans to develop various platforms.
The selected project involves utilizing streetlight poles near on-street parking lots to build ‘SMART E-Mobility Charging Streetlight Poles’ that can charge electric mobility devices such as electric vehicles, electric kickboards, and electric bicycles.
The district secured a total budget of 600 million KRW, including 300 million KRW in national funding and matching funds from the district. Starting in June, detailed design will be conducted through additional consultations with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and related agencies and departments, with the project scheduled to be completed within the year.
Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “We will promote the selected project in cooperation with relevant experts,” adding, “Through this project, we expect a twofold effect of resolving difficulties in securing sites for electric vehicle charging stations and reducing the burden of installation costs.”
