Gyeonggi Art Center and Do Museum Close for 2 Weeks Due to COVID-19 Spread Gyeonggi Arts Center

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Cultural facilities in Gyeonggi Province, including the Gyeonggi Arts Center and Gyeonggi Museum, will close for two weeks due to signs of a resurgence of COVID-19.

The Gyeonggi Arts Center announced on the 29th that all performances scheduled from the 1st to the 14th of next month have been canceled and will be converted to non-face-to-face performances.

The canceled performances include ▲ flutist Park Ji-eun and clarinetist Chae Jae-il's "Brunch Classic" (4th) ▲ Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra's "Flying Symphonic" (7th) ▲ Gyeonggi Gugakwon's planned performance "Jjam Concert: Joseon Club" (10th), among others.

To prevent the spread of infectious diseases, the center canceled all face-to-face performances from the end of February this year and held online performances without audiences for three months from March to May.

The center is also considering whether to hold the canceled performances as audience-free online performances.

Additionally, the decision on whether to stage performances scheduled after the 14th of next month will be made based on the trend of COVID-19 spread.

The Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation also decided to suspend operations of facilities such as the Gyeonggi Museum for the next two weeks.

The facilities affected include the Gyeonggi Creative Center, Gyeonggi Imagination Campus, Gyeonggi Provincial Museum, Gyeonggi Museum of Art, Nam June Paik Art Center, Silhak Museum, Jeongok Prehistory Museum, Gyeonggi Children's Museum, and Northern Gyeonggi Children's Museum.

The foundation had resumed normal operations of these facilities sequentially from the 12th of this month after COVID-19 stabilized earlier this month and the government shifted to a daily quarantine (social distancing in daily life) system.

Earlier, the government decided to strengthen quarantine management in the metropolitan area for two weeks from the 29th of this month to the 14th of next month and to temporarily suspend operations of public and multi-use facilities.

This decision was made based on the assessment that the rapid spread of COVID-19 centered around the Coupang logistics center in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, is serious.
