[Golf Topic] Im Sungjae "Calling Winning Caddie Alvin Choi~"

[Asia Economy Golf Specialist Reporter Kim Hyun-jun] ○…Im Sung-jae (22, CJ Logistics) is set to reunite with winning caddie Alvin Choi...

His agency CJ announced on the 28th, "When the PGA Tour resumes, he will be working with Alvin Choi." Alvin Choi was the key figure who collaborated with Im Sung-jae for his first PGA Tour victory at the Honda Classic last March. In the post-match interview, he even served as an interpreter, drawing additional spotlight. Born into a Korean family in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, he speaks Korean fluently. Alvin Choi was also a promising amateur player in Canada.

Turning professional in 2013, he won the Bayview Place Island Savings Open on the Canadian PGA Tour in 2015, then advanced to the U.S. PGA Korn Ferry (second-tier) Tour but lost his card in 2019. His connection with Im Sung-jae began while both were active on the Korn Ferry Tour. Alvin Choi introduced, "We grew closer as we played tournaments and became friends." He transformed into a caddie at Im Sung-jae’s request during the Honda Classic, which was a significant psychological and strategic help.

It is interesting that Alvin Choi returned to being a player right after Im Sung-jae’s victory. However, with the spread of COVID-19 in the U.S. and the PGA Tour shutdown, along with cancellations of qualifying (Q) schools, plans were disrupted. In an interview with Golf Channel on the same day, he said, "I will take this opportunity to find myself and organize my thoughts." The PGA Tour is scheduled to resume with the Charles Schwab Challenge (total prize money $7.5 million) on June 11.
