[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] Chey Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group, participated in a blood donation relay to help resolve the blood shortage crisis caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
On the afternoon of the 28th, Chairman Chey made an unannounced visit to the SK T Tower in Jung-gu, Seoul, where SK Telecom employees were conducting a relay blood donation service. After encouraging the employees, he joined the blood donation relay. Chairman Chey, along with SK Telecom President Park Jung-ho and other members, measured their temperature and blood pressure before donating blood.
Chairman Chey stated, "For critically ill patients who need urgent surgery, blood is the most powerful safety net above all else," adding, "I participated in the blood donation to join forces with our members in weaving the warp and weft of the 'blood safety net' that protects all our lives and health."
He continued, "As COVID-19 prolongs, situations such as blood shortages, which were previously unforeseen, may continue to occur," emphasizing, "Please also pay attention to whether there are marginalized organizations or individuals that we may be overlooking or neglecting during the COVID-19 response process."
About 100 SK Telecom employees participated in the blood donation held at SK T Tower that day, contributing to the establishment of the 'blood safety net.'
Earlier, in March, Chairman Chey attended the Supex Council meeting held via video conference and said, "During difficult times like COVID-19, companies must build new safety nets for society, customers, and employees," urging, "For this, all affiliates should coldly reexamine existing practices and systems from the ground up."
Following Chairman Chey's call for the need to establish a systematic safety net for crisis response, 11 SK ICT family companies, including SK Telecom, SK Broadband, SK Planet, ADT Caps, and 11st, started a relay blood donation in Daegu on the 25th and have been expanding it nationwide to Seoul, Busan, Daejeon, and Wonju.
An SK official stated, "Starting with blood donation, we will continuously explore various ways for companies to contribute to building the national social safety net."
