Over 137,000 Businesses with One or More Employees Targeted

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 28th that it will conduct the "2019 Business Establishment Survey," a complete statistical survey to understand the structure and distribution of local businesses, from the 4th to the 29th of next month.

The survey targets all businesses with at least one employee engaged in industrial activities in the region, totaling approximately 137,000 establishments. The survey items include 12 categories such as type of business, number of employees, sales revenue, and whether a smart factory has been introduced.

In particular, the item "whether a smart factory has been introduced," included for the first time nationwide, was proposed by Gwangju City to Statistics Korea to be used as basic data for establishing the "Comprehensive Plan for the Spread of Regional Smart Factories," making it a Gwangju City autonomous item.

The survey will be conducted through face-to-face interviews by 312 investigators wearing investigator IDs and masks, while complying with COVID-19 quarantine guidelines. Telephone surveys will be conducted concurrently for areas deemed vulnerable, group facilities, and multi-use facilities.

The collected data will be reviewed and aggregated by industry, employee size, organizational form, and autonomous district, including the number of businesses and employees.

The survey results will be provisionally finalized in December and published on the city’s website. They will be used as basic data for various policy formulation and evaluation by national and local governments, business management planning, and academic research.

Chae Kyung-gi, the city’s legal affairs officer, said, “In times of crisis, precise data for understanding the current situation and establishing countermeasures is necessary. The survey contents will be strictly protected under the Statistics Act (Article 33 on confidentiality) and used only for statistical purposes, so we hope for active participation to ensure accurate statistics.”
