79 New COVID-19 Cases Today, "Internal Meeting Expected"
Starting from the 4th of next month, discount coupons worth 6,000 won for movie tickets will be distributed to revive the film industry, which collapsed due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The Korean Film Council announced on the 28th that it will provide discount coupons over three weeks as part of the campaign "Spring Again at the Theater," created together by theaters and audiences. Advance reservations using the discount coupons can be made from the 1st of next month. The coupons apply to movies screened from Thursday to Sunday of the respective week.
CGV, Lotte Cinema, and Megabox will issue up to six discount coupons per person over three weeks, two per week, on a first-come, first-served basis. CineQ automatically applies discounts for up to four tickets per person each week for both on-site and advance reservations. Independent theaters not affiliated with multiplex chains also offer benefits through individual events. An official explained, "Depending on the theater, card company and telecommunications discounts can be combined."
Originally, the Korean Film Council planned to distribute the discount coupons on the 21st to accelerate the normalization of the film industry. However, the schedule was postponed due to multiple COVID-19 cases related to the Itaewon clubs. Although seventy-nine new COVID-19 cases were reported today (28th), there are currently no plans to change the schedule. An official stated, "There will be internal meetings regarding the trend of COVID-19."
