Mujubanbitbul Festival Honored as Prestigious Cultural Tourism Festival Mujubanbitbul Festival

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Go Dal-young] The Muju Firefly Festival, which has elevated South Korea's status as a representative festival for two consecutive years, has completed preparations to advance as a world-class festival with distinctiveness and self-sustainability as an environmental ecology festival.

According to Muju County, it was finally selected as an Honorary Cultural Tourism Festival by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (hereinafter referred to as the Ministry), and on the 28th, it was announced that it has been granted priority qualification for applying for and receiving indirect support projects from the Ministry.

The Honorary Cultural Tourism Festival is selected by the Ministry with the aim of strengthening festival competitiveness and fostering world-class festivals. This year, among 13 festivals nationwide that have accumulated 10 years or more as excellent festivals or higher, seven festivals including the Muju Firefly Festival, which have dedicated festival organizations and potential for sustainable growth and development, were selected.

Hwang In-hong, Governor of Muju County, said, "The Muju Firefly Festival, Korea's representative environmental festival, is now standing on the launching pad to leap toward the world," adding, "We will do our best so that the reputation of 'Muju means Firefly Festival, and Firefly Festival means Muju' can be engraved not only domestically but also globally."

Meanwhile, the 24th Muju Firefly Festival (scheduled for September 5 to 13) has maintained its status as a prestigious festival, holding the title of government-designated representative cultural tourism festival for two consecutive years in 2018 and 2019, the best festival for five consecutive years, a government-designated excellent festival for ten consecutive years, and the representative festival of Jeollabuk-do Province. It has received favorable reviews for operating programs suitable for an environmental ecology festival, as well as efficient use of space and nighttime programs.

In particular, based on the differentiated theme of the firefly, an environmental indicator insect and Natural Monument No. 322, and its food habitat, the festival has continuously upgraded visitor satisfaction every year in terms of festival enjoyment and program quality, harmony with local culture, and facility safety and convenience, earning praise as "truly the Firefly Festival."
