Isamyong, Former Director of Jeonnam National University Hospital, Awarded 'Minister of Health and Welfare' Commendation


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Lee Sam-yong, director of Jeonnam National University Hospital, recently received the ‘Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation’ for his contributions to the development of the clinical trial field.


According to Jeonnam National University Hospital on the 28th, Director Lee was recognized for his dedicated efforts in research and legal and institutional improvements to foster the clinical trial industry and related businesses, and was selected as a meritorious person in the clinical trial promotion sector.


The award ceremony was held that day at the National Clinical Trial Support Foundation in Seoul.


Director Lee has devoted himself to building infrastructure related to the 4th Industrial Revolution, such as operating open laboratories and big data centers where hospitals and companies can coexist and cooperate, to advance clinical trials focused on strengthening national academic and research capabilities.


In particular, to conduct next-generation clinical trials, he contributed to cost reduction and minimizing research periods in the new drug development field by unifying medical information sharing and management systems through the establishment of CTMS (Next-Generation Smart Clinical Trial Technology Development Center) based on IT and ICT technologies.


He also achieved results by registering software with the Korea Information Technology Industry Promotion Agency for clinical trial management and distribution, and is striving to build clinical trial critical information in the CDISC standard code system in preparation for global research and interoperability with foreign software.


Meanwhile, Lee Sam-yong, who was appointed as a professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery at Jeonnam National University College of Medicine in 1990, served as dean of Jeonnam National University College of Medicine (2012?2014) and has been leading the hospital since his appointment as director of Jeonnam National University Hospital in 2017. In particular, to fulfill the hospital’s role in the AI-centered industrial convergence complex project, he has established and operates a healthcare big data center within the hospital.


Additionally, he serves as president of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Hospital Association, contributing to the development of regional healthcare.
