[Asia Economy (Uijeongbu) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will hold various events such as a talk concert and a peace music concert to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and to spread the atmosphere of peace on the Korean Peninsula.
First, on the 10th of next month, the province will hold the "20th Anniversary of the June 15 Joint Declaration Peace Talk Concert - Baekdu and Hanna (Hallasan) Are My Homeland" at Banwol Art Hall in Pocheon City. At the talk concert, Lee Jae-gang, Vice Governor for Peace of Gyeonggi Province, former Minister of Unification Lee Jong-seok, and Pocheon Mayor Park Yoon-guk will attend and discuss peace policies of Gyeonggi Province and Pocheon City with citizens. During the discussion, a stage will be prepared where the social enterprise Gwangmyeong Symphony and the singing troupe Hope Bird will reenact the performance of the North Korean Samjiyon Orchestra held in Seoul in February 2018.
The province originally planned this event to include many residents, but considering the COVID-19 situation, only about 200 residents including firefighters, medical staff, and volunteers will be invited.
On the 14th of next month, the province will hold a "Peace Music Concert" for peace on the Korean Peninsula at the outdoor performance hall of Paju Peace Nuri Park, the gateway to peaceful reunification to the north.
This music concert, jointly promoted with the National Council for Peaceful Reunification of the Korean People and others, will be held under the theme "Walking the Road," meaning to be together on the path united with residents from the northernmost part of Gyeonggi Province to Pyongyang.
The concert will feature four themed stages: ▲The Beginning and Leap of Peace ▲The Pain of Korea’s Division ▲Turning Crisis into Opportunity ▲Wishing for Peace and Harmony on the Korean Peninsula, with thematic videos and performances.
Performers include YB (Yoon Do-hyun Band), Yang Hee-eun, Song So-hee, Dynamic Duo, Kim Ho-joong, Forestella, and AB6IX.
For on-site attendance, health checks such as fever screening and mask-wearing verification are required.
Additionally, from the 1st to the 15th of next month, the province, together with the Ministry of Unification and Seoul City, will hold a nationwide event under the theme "Making Peace on the Korean Peninsula."
Shin Myung-seop, Director of the Peace Cooperation Bureau of the province, said, "We have prepared various events that residents can participate in with maximum quarantine systems to reflect on the significance of the historic first summit between leaders in the history of division and the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, and to spread the atmosphere of peace on the Korean Peninsula. We hope that the residents’ wishes for peace will lead to the resumption of Kaesong tourism and the reactivation of the Kaesong Industrial Complex."
