[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) announced on the 28th that 19 place names in the district have been confirmed and officially announced by the National Geographic Information Institute's Notice No. 2020-2004.
The place names confirmed this time are unannounced names currently in use through the national basic map or web pages.
Based on reference literature research and collection of residents' opinions, the Seo-gu Place Name Committee, Gwangju Metropolitan City Place Name Committee, and the National Place Name Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's National Geographic Information Institute reviewed and decided on the names.
Among them, 18 place names including 'Nongseong Intersection, Gwangcheon Intersection, Yangyu Bridge, Wolsan Intersection, Gwangam Bridge, Hwajeong Intersection, Jipbong Tunnel, Seochang Underpass, Seochang Intersection, Byeokjin Overpass, Bulamgol, Sinyonggol, Sinseochang Bridge, Baekseoksan, Pungam District Entrance Intersection, Songam Tunnel, Geumho Intersection, Geungnak Elementary School Intersection' are currently in use and were mostly confirmed by the National Place Name Committee.
The artificial place name for the newly installed road facility (bridge) due to the construction of the access road from Sangmu District to the sewage treatment plant was finally decided as 'Chipyeong Bridge' considering the regional characteristics.
In the future, the National Geographic Information Institute plans to reflect the reviewed and decided place names on the national basic map.
Also, Seo-gu plans to coordinate with related departments to maintain and correct inconsistent road signs so that residents do not get confused by the newly confirmed place names.
