[Asia Economy Reporter Yoonju Hwang] Dow announced on the 28th that it has developed and commercialized an eco-friendly post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic resin designed for collation shrink film applications in the Asia-Pacific region.
Dow's newly launched product, 'XUS 60921.01,' contains 40% recycled resin while delivering film performance comparable to that of films made with virgin resin. This product is designed to be used 100% in the core layer of collation shrink applications, enabling the use of recycled materials in films at rates between 13% and 24%.
Bambang Candra, Vice President and General Manager of Dow's Asia-Pacific Packaging and Specialty Plastics business, stated, "This new resin guarantees excellent product performance demanded by companies and customers while enabling a circular economy for plastics. As a materials science company, Dow will continue to research and develop products that can prevent environmental pollution caused by plastic waste."
With the growth of e-commerce, demand is increasing for packaging that safely protects products while minimizing waste. Dow's newly launched recycled resin delivers collation shrink film performance comparable to virgin resin, allowing companies and customers to ship products with confidence while reducing the amount of plastic waste.
Additionally, it helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions and energy consumption, supporting converters, consumer goods, and retail companies in achieving their sustainability goals, while establishing a new lifecycle for plastics that might otherwise become waste.
This product is manufactured at Dow's facility in Nanjing, China, using recycled plastics collected by Dow's partners within China.
Meanwhile, Dow is making multifaceted efforts to raise awareness of the plastic waste problem and to solve it by closely collaborating with various global companies and countries.
As a founding member of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW), which currently has over 40 member companies worldwide, Dow is improving waste collection infrastructure to prevent plastic waste from entering nature, conducting research and development for advanced recycling technologies, and continuing various activities such as the marine environment cleanup campaign 'PullingOurWeight.'
