[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] The number of deaths from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the United States surpassed 100,000 on the 27th (local time). This is more than 20 times the number of U.S. military deaths during the Iraq War in 2003.
According to COVID-19 statistics from Johns Hopkins University, the cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. reached 100,047, with a total of 1,695,776 confirmed cases as of that day. It took 111 days to exceed 100,000 deaths since the first COVID-19 death in the U.S. was reported in Santa Clara County, California, on February 6.
The number of COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. is known to be nearly 23 times the total number of U.S. military deaths during the Iraq War from 2003 to 2011, which was 4,424. It is even much higher than the number of U.S. military deaths during the Vietnam War, which lasted 20 years from 1955 to 1975, with 58,220 deaths.
