Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung is presiding over an emergency quarantine inspection meeting in response to COVID-19.
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, warned that a tsunami of COVID-19 is about to hit again, urging the public sector to prepare thorough countermeasures and repeatedly emphasizing the importance of adhering to quarantine rules to the residents.
On the 27th, at the 'Emergency COVID-19 Response Quarantine Inspection Meeting' held to respond to the spread of COVID-19 centered around the Coupang logistics center in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, Governor Lee said, "I mentioned around mid-April that we should predict and prepare for a tsunami that could come at any time, and now that time has come again," adding, "I think COVID-19 will probably accompany us for a considerable period. Although inconvenient, we must accept this coexistence as a given fact and devise corresponding countermeasures."
He continued, "The world has never tried to control the disease while guaranteeing people's daily lives and economic activities, but our country is the first to implement such a policy, and so far, it has been relatively successful," and added, "We must thoroughly identify dangerous places like now and create and execute appropriate measures according to the situation. To carry out these two tasks simultaneously, the dedication and efforts of public officials are ultimately important."
According to the meeting results, the province will conduct an urgent inspection of 27 logistics warehouses over 30,000㎡ within the province, checking for facility disinfection, fever screening, availability of hand sanitizers, and mask-wearing.
Additionally, by the 5th of next month, the province will check compliance with quarantine rules at English kindergartens, foreign language academies, and subject tutoring academies for high school students where foreign instructors work. Quarantine status inspections will also be conducted at 125 alternative education institutions and 262 public libraries recently opened within the province.
In particular, on the 7th of next month, a focused inspection will be conducted on coin karaoke rooms to check compliance with the administrative order banning gatherings. The province also plans to monitor infection prevention rule compliance at sports facilities such as bowling alleys and golf courses, which are blind spots in management, as well as facilities that operate both sports and food service businesses.
Earlier, the province conducted mass testing on 4,156 workers and visitors at the Bucheon Coupang logistics center. Testing has been completed for 2,633 people, accounting for 63.3%, and delivery workers who have not yet been tested will be promptly surveyed as soon as their lists are obtained.
