[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Jo) is promoting the 'Clean Seocho Project' in collaboration with air quality and environmental experts ‘Uridului Mirae’, ‘Kweather’, and ‘KAIST Center for Sustainable Development’ to prevent the resurgence of COVID-19 and enable proactive responses.
Although the spread of COVID-19 has recently slowed down and shifted to a daily quarantine system, concerns remain about resurgence due to cluster infections at logistics centers, and voices warn of a possible large-scale outbreak in autumn and winter.
In response, the district has prepared this project to establish a proactive response system suited for the post-COVID era by creating a continuous monitoring system that can simultaneously manage indoor air quality while eliminating COVID-19 risk factors, recognizing the increased importance of facility management in preparation for the prolonged COVID-19 situation.
First, on the 27th at 2 p.m., the district gathered representatives from each institution in the public, private, academic, and research sectors at the 5th-floor conference room of the district office to sign an MOU and agreed to build a mutual cooperation system.
Among them, ‘(Corporation) Uridului Mirae’ is a UN-cooperating nonprofit public interest organization focused on low-carbon green growth and a sustainable future. It will oversee and promote the project by conducting ▲ Clean Seocho Policy Advisory Committee ▲ on-site inspections and certification ▲ Clean Seocho seminars ▲ offline campaigns.
‘Kweather Co., Ltd.’, a company renowned for weather forecasting and specialized in air quality measurement, will perform roles such as ▲ indoor air quality measurement and facility certification ▲ data collection ▲ establishment of an IoT-based continuous indoor air quality monitoring system.
‘KAIST Center for Sustainable Development’ will analyze the collected air quality data by space and ▲ propose ‘air improvement solutions’ that can enhance residents’ living environment, academic performance, and productivity ▲ present case study results at global international organizations and academic conferences.
The district plans to regularly disinfect multi-use facilities in the area and conduct comprehensive inspections to ensure proper installation and management of ventilation systems for the 'Clean Seocho Project.'
In particular, it will establish a ‘continuous air quality monitoring system’ through ongoing air quality measurements and prepare management plans to maintain clean air quality in each space. Facilities that manage air quality cleanly will be awarded the ‘Clean Seocho Certification’ (tentative name).
Spaces granted the certification mark will also host seminars on air, hygiene, quarantine, safety, and health management by inviting Clean Seocho Policy Advisory Committee members both online and offline.
Additionally, the district will form the ‘Clean Seocho Policy Advisory Committee’ to establish certification standards and grant certifications for clean spaces.
The committee, composed of top experts in various environmental fields and representatives of Seocho-gu operated facilities, will play a role in establishing comprehensive clean standards for air quality and quarantine within the region.
The district has previously drawn significant attention by implementing various fine dust reduction policies such as ▲ rapid and accurate disclosure of confirmed patients’ movement paths ▲ the nation’s first COVID-19 testing for overseas arrivals ▲ installation of Eco Shelter, Eco Shellter, Clean Village Buses, and 108 first-grade fine dust measuring devices.
Seocho-gu Mayor Eunhee Jo stated, “To prevent the spread of COVID-19 and prepare for the post-COVID era, we will create facilities that all residents can use with confidence and improve the quality of life for Seocho-gu citizens.”
