Gyeonggi-do to Conduct Emergency Full Inspection of 2,500 Workers at Coupang Bucheon Logistics Center

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has decided to conduct a full investigation by securing the list of delivery workers at the Coupang Bucheon logistics center, where COVID-19 confirmed cases are rapidly increasing.

On the 27th, Gyeonggi Province announced on the 28th that it plans to start a full investigation as soon as it receives the list of about 2,500 delivery workers requested from the Coupang logistics center, checking the working dates and delivery routes related to confirmed cases.

As of noon that day, there were a total of 18 confirmed cases in the province related to the Coupang logistics center, including 12 in Bucheon.

The provincial quarantine authorities are also managing 407 of the 489 contacts related to the Coupang logistics center by self-quarantine and classifying 82 as subjects for active monitoring.

In addition, a full inspection is underway targeting 4,015 workers and visitors (1,822 tested as of the previous day).

The province explained that the places of infection are presumed to be the second-floor cafeteria workroom, the first-floor smoking room, and the shuttle bus.

Governor Lee Jae-myung, presiding over an emergency COVID-19 response quarantine inspection meeting in the afternoon, said regarding the increase in confirmed cases originating from the Coupang logistics center, "I have mentioned that we should predict and prepare for a 'tsunami' of large-scale confirmed cases that could come again at any time, and now that time has come again," adding, "I think COVID-19 will probably accompany us for a considerable period. Although inconvenient, we must devise corresponding countermeasures."
